Services Offered at Trail Ridge

Physical Exams

If indicated, Dr. Gawley will perform a full physical examination on your pet and make any necessary recommendations for overall health.

Neurologic Assessments

IMG_0305The brain and spinal cord can be difficult to assess in animals since they don’t talk and can’t tell us what is wrong!  Dr. Gawley has been specifically trained to check for neurologic deficits and localize the problem at the site, whether brain or spinal cord.  Many of these issues respond beautifully to chiropractic, especially when combined with necessary medications, supplements and conditioning exercises.  Some patients may benefit from more advanced imaging of the brain and spinal cord, such as MRI or CT Scan.  Dr. Gawley will make these recommendations and referrals if needed.

Blood Panels (Equine)

Many joint, neurologic, lameness and muscle weakness issues can mimic infectious or metabolic diseases such as Lyme, Ehrlichia, EPM (Equine protozoal myelencephalopathy), Equine Metabolic Syndrome, or Cushing’s Disease just to name a few.  Many of these can easily be tested with a simple blood sample.  Dr. Gawley will make recommendations for these tests if indicated.

Chiropractic (Spinal Manipulation)

IMG_1671Why Spinal Manipulation? Spinal manipulation works fundamentally by stimulating the nervous system. When there are restrictions within the vertebrae, either from arthritis, injury or muscle spasm, the nerves that are leaving the spinal cord are impinged, creating “static in the phone line”.  Spinal manipulation releases these restrictions which stimulates the nervous system and allows the muscles, internal organs and immune system to function optimally, encouraging the body to heal itself and prevent further disease.

The body has a tremendous, innate ability to heal itself.  Every cell in the body has the ability to regenerate anew.  This is the very essence of what it means to be a living being!  Disease results when this process is  interrupted.  Both conventional and alternative therapies are aimed at helping to restore this process, but ultimately rely on the body’s wisdom to heal itself.

Conditioning/Exercises

After a full neurological assessment and adjustments, Dr. Gawley will make suggestions for specific exercises that will help strengthen any muscle weaknesses, and stretches to help with muscle spasms that you can do yourself at home.  Pets need physical therapy too, and amazing results can be seen when combined with chiropractic adjustments.
